FTC Seeks AI Executives’ Testimony in Consumer Harm Investigation

Artificial Intelligence
After a White House meeting, several AI executives signed a pledge on robust control measures.

The Federal Trade Commission (FTC) has opened an investigation into artificial intelligence (AI) firms OpenAI and Anthropic over alerts to the potential dangers their products pose to consumers. As part of the ongoing investigation, the FTC has issued subpoenas to both companies’ executives to testify about the risks of the technology.

With growing concerns over the rapid growth of AI technologies, the White House hosted leaders from over a dozen top AI companies, including Anthropic and OpenAI, for a working lunch to discuss its development. After the meeting, several AI leaders signed a pledge committing to build more robust control measures, as well as multiple layers of auditing.

President Trump stated that the pledge will act “almost like a constitution” and will be “morally binding. He stated that “there’s going to be a tremendous self-policing aspect,” and that a committee to “watch over the whole entity” is being considered.

As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…

  • For Chairman Ferguson and members of the FTC as they investigate the safety risks of AI models.
  • For President Trump as he encourages collaboration on safety measures between AI programmers.
  • For the leaders of large AI companies such as Anthropic and OpenAI as they work with the government to ensure the security of their products.
